In car apps have been gaining a lot of press lately but in reality, they never seem to work the way it does on the promotional youtube video.
Often times when you do hear about cars coming out with in-built social media functions, you’re thinking, “who the hell Instagrams while they drive?” Well apparently, this girl does.
takes into consideration such data as, how you accelerate, your steering wheel behaviour as well as your braking temperament. So how is this going to help find your perfect match?
Anyway, there seems to be no end to the creativity of in car app ideas in an attempt to value-add vehicle sales. So Mini have decided to go further with their patented, Connect Us, the latest version of the MINI Connected App. It’s like speed dating on steroids in that it will find other suitable drivers, while you drive… queue Xzibit meme.
So how does this dating in car app work? Well its meant to be extremely reliable. Besides all the user input data, Mini says that it will go far beyond basic data like interests, activities and whether you like long walks on the beach or not. Rather, it will compare your driving style!
The Connect Us in car app takes into consideration such data as, how you accelerate, your steering wheel behaviour as well as your braking temperament. So how is this going to help find your perfect match? Well apparently, the data about how you drive will be matched with someone who drives their Mini in a similar way.
Once the in car app finds another drive who drives like you, the app can organise for the two of you to meet up
Mini calls it The Driving Excitement Analyser. It is a function of the Mini Connected app which can be downloaded for free from the Apple App store. So in essence its not exactly an in car app, maybe 50% at most. Either way, the Connect Us update will only be available for one day only: 1st of April this year. Is it just me or is this extremely confusing? Is it an in car app or a phone app that is already available but this dating update is only available on one day? What kind of smoke blowing is this?
When paired with a data-enabled phone, your Mini’s centre console will find restaurants, popular landmarks or bars that you could take your date on. Before that though, contestants (yes, its really starting to sound as corny as a gameshow) will make sure that your braking, accelerating, and cornering is on par with a potential mate.
Once the in car app finds another drive who drives like you, the app can organise for the two of you to meet up and perhaps talk about your love of driving a Mini. Assuming that all Mini drivers should date exclusively with each other.
So, what do you guys think of this gimmick?
